Discover Angel Fire Central Reservations Says “I Know Jo, Do You?”

Pictured with me are the smiles behind the voices: Paula Gunnerson, Micki Wedel, & Laura Holbrook

Discover Angel Fire Central Reservation referral service has been in business since 1996. Seven years ago, Micki Wedel took the helm.
This very personalized service is akin to an Angel Fire travel agency. They work with a large pool of rental units for vacation travelers. They have access to almost 300 properties in Angel Fire and Eagle Nest. They offer condos, cabins, and premium chalets. Working closely with other property management companies, as well as individual home owners, the ladies at Discover Angel Fire Central Reservations communicate one-on-one with callers. They question and listen attentively to each separate caller, then strive to match each guest, family and group with the lodging best suited to meet their vacation needs. And there is no extra charge to guests for this service.

Micki has been in the hospitality business since she was 16 years old. Growing up, her parents owned a truck stop in the mid-west. Because of her background, she has always chosen employment in customer service based businesses. As an adult Micki lived in the San Luis Valley of Colorado before moving back to the mid-west. But her love for the mountains remained. Eleven years ago she made the decision to permanently move back and Eagle Nest became her home. When the opportunity for her to buy in at Discover Angel Fire arose, it was a natural fit. She told me that Nadine, a prior owner, had molded the business into a very personalized experience for their guests and she continues using that same business model. When you call Discover Angel Fire, you will always speak to a person, not a machine. Their main goal is to provide hassle free vacations for their guests. They also work with two of the local ski and snowboard rental businesses offering discounts on equipment rentals. You can reserve your rentals at the same time you book lodging.

Laura, who works full time for Micki, says they met when she was running the Eagle Nest Chamber of Commerce. Micki was a willing volunteer. She also told me that Micki’s devotion to buying and promoting local businesses was inspirational to those around her. She not only talks the talk, she walks the walk!

If you are a private owner and want to place your home or condo on the rental program, call Micki at 575-377-6062. She stressed they are not a caretaker business, they are a referral/reservation business.

To view pictures and pricing visit www.discoverangelfire.com, and to make your reservations call toll free 800-323-5793. Their winter hours are: November through March, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Summers hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Chamber News, Events & Updates

new-mexico-trueBy Jo Mixon, Executive Director
Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce

December, December, oh how I remember…the hustle and bustle, the giggles and smiles, and hopes of epic snowfall for our winter recreation this holiday season in Angel Fire! We’ve wrapped up November at the Chamber adding six new memberships and fourteen members who renewed their commitments. At our quarterly membership breakfast meeting, November 12, we rolled out the Chamber’s new “Cash Mob” program. It’s members helping members! Please stop by the Chamber for more information.

This week our office is buzzing with preparations for the Annual Chamber Christmas Dinner Party. One of our new members, H2 Uptown, will be hosting this year. The date is Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Get dressed-up, come early and stay late! The reception, cash bar, silent auction and entertainment by Ry Taylor all begin at 6:00 pm. Members may purchase tickets until Friday December 6th at the Chamber office or by calling 575-377-6353. (If you are planning to attend, seating is limited, please purchase as soon as possible.) We are extremely excited about the silent auction this year. It is filled with gifts, trips, and services. You will want to be the highest bidder!

Thursday, December 5, we hope to see you at Village Hall for the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony. There will be caroling, dancing, and refreshments. We just watched as a village crew hung the lighted skier decoration on our light post in front of Centro Plaza. Thanks to our members and friends and countless others, the village will be festively decorated the entire season.

There is still time to purchase a ticket to the Angel Fire Garden Club Christmas Dinner. It will be held this Friday, December 6 at the Elliott Barker Girl Scout Camp. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber for $15.00.

Friday night December 6, you may also plan to attend the Annual Toy Run Auction at Zebs, 3431 Mountain View Blvd. Dinner starts at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $28.50 in advance (per person) or $50.00 per couple or $30.00 each at the door. Pay $10.00 to attend the auction and dance only or bring an unwrapped gift worth $10.00 or more for the Toy Run. Dance the night away to the music of the Velvet Funk Band.

Our final Business After Hours of 2013 will be at the Trailhead, 48 N. Angel Fire Blvd. Thursday December 12, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Enjoy food, fun, networking, and live music.

Opening day at the Resort is December 13, and don’t forget the Holiday Market, December 14-15, at the Angel Fire Community Center. Purchase your Christmas gifts from various local artisans and venders while enjoying the festive atmosphere.

The official kick off party/meeting for Habla Tamale will be held December 17, 2013.

Habla Tamale is a two day event scheduled for next summer, June 28-June29, 2014. It’s already on the state calendar! There will be tamale cooking contests, (with both personal and commercial categories), tamale eating contests, tamale making workshops, tamale history venues, music stages, food & drink venders, arts and crafts booths, kid zones, and more. The success of this event may very well depend upon the active participation of our locals. Everyone in Angel Fire and the surrounding areas are invited to get involved. Please help by attending the kick-off meeting. For more information see www.angelfirechamber.org/HablaTamale or call 575-377-6353.

Join us at the base of the mountain on Tuesday, December 24 for the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks at the Angel Fire Resort. And keep an eye out – Santa & Mrs. Claus have been known to join in the festivities! Thanks to the Village of Angel Fire and Angel Fire Resort for sponsoring this fun event.

We are very excited to be working with the Moreno Valley High School to start a Junior Chamber of Commerce in January 2014. And look for information coming soon about Angel Fire’s first Annual Winter Carnival co-sponsored by the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce and The Angel Fire Resort. This four day event is scheduled to take place in February 2014. Snow sculptures, snowshoe golf, dog races, and a snowman garden are only a few of the events we are planning. Watch for ways you can get involved!

As we have seen throughout 2013, more and more positive things keep happening at the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce. We are happy to be a part of this dynamic more forward. And I personally want to continue to give praise to our Ambassador Team and the Board of Director’s who give generously of their time and efforts to help make the Angel Fire Chamber so incredible and whose dedication makes it all work! And of course I cannot say thank-you enough to all of our members! This organization is membership based. You are the lifeline of the Chamber. Thank you all. Together we make a difference!
