April 2014 News & Updates

By Jo Mixon

Its that time of year again when the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce elects new board members. This year has proven to be somewhat different. We have three Director positions to fill with three names on the ballot. (There were originally six. One had to pull out at the last minute due to work related circumstances and the other two got busy and before they knew it, the deadline for filing had passed.) Congratulations are in order for Incumbents, Wende Woolley of Wende Woolley Photography and Rogers Lanon, ReMax Realtor and co-owner of Mountain Home Services. Michael Dean of Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails will join them. These new director’s will be seated at our quarterly member meeting/breakfast on Thursday April 24, 2014. Please join us, 8:00 am to 9:00 am, in the foyer of the Chamber for coffee and donuts to welcome them.

We are busy at the chamber working on committees to plan upcoming spring and summer events. The Angel Fire Annual Spring Clean-up is set for Saturday May 10, AAFPO Weekend June 6-8, and the 4th Annual Angel Fire Community-Wide Flea Market, Saturday June 28. That same weekend, chamber member, Hound Dog Events, will hold their 2nd Annual Rough Riders 200. The participants will ride 100 miles on Saturday and another 100 miles on Sunday.

We are planning our Annual Dinner/Meeting for May, the date and location will be announced soon. Also in May, Business After Hours will once again go into full swing. We have a great summer line-up. Angel Fire Proud, a committee of the Village of Angel Fire, will sponsor May 8. The Pub n’grub will sponsor on May 22 and Keller Williams Realty of Angel Fire on June 5. On June 26 we’ll all head out to the Red Cloud Ranch, July 10 it’s happening at Laguna Vista Saloon, August 7 at Kokopelli Property Management, and September 11 will be hosted by Title Services. Mark the dates! If you want to sponsor a BAH, call Jo at 575-377-6353 and we might can fit one or two maximum more onto the calendar.

Our highly successful Chamber Cash Mob program will continue on random days throughout the year. This morning we asked our young friend Hayden Weeks to draw a name. He pulled Katherine’s Fine Art out of the hopper… CASH MOB TIME! We called to congratulate Katherine McDermott as this week’s mobee and asked when we could bring the mob. The date is set for this Saturday, April 5, any time between 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at her studio. All those who have signed up to be mobsters, have promised to go and spend at least $20.00. Katherine says she has been working hard to fill her studio, hoping that she would soon be the lucky recipient of a cash mob! We will have directions to her studio posted on our facebook page this Thursday or for your pick-up at the Chamber office. Even if you have not yet signed up to be a Chamber Mobster, please consider joining us! If you cannot be there on Saturday please call Katherine at 575-377-2836 to set an appointment. There are lots and lots of things happening at the Chamber, so please get involved!

We want to announce the Chamber Board decided to make the tough decision to postpone the Habla Tamale Festival until the summer of 2015. We want this festival to be an event that will be tremendously beneficial to Angel Fire and the surrounding area. We believe, with the help of our residents and businesses, it can be. Financially speaking, the decision to postpone is the best judgment call. We are still moving forward with this event and we need help in filling committee seats and sponsorship funding. Please call or email the chamber if you would like to be a part.

I want to personally thank all of the businesses and individuals who have become chamber members in the few past years and all of the numerous members who faithfully renew and support our chamber year after year. We appreciate each and every one of you! Visit our website www.angelfirechamber.org for a complete listing of our membership. For those who are not yet members remember, you can’t afford not to be a member of the Chamber. We receive phone calls, emails, inquiries on our websites and visitors in the office daily, all asking us what businesses can provide the services they are looking for. Only our members are the beneficiaries of those referrals. And as I have said many times before, national studies show that people are 63% more likely to patronize businesses that are chamber members. Investing in a membership in the chamber is an investment, not only for yourself, but also an investment in the community. We even have an individual membership for people who do not own a business but believe in the work we are doing and want to be a part. Together we can make a difference!
