Music from Angel Fire Presents the 25th Anniversary Season!
In this special summer of 2008, join us in the spectacular mountain communities of Angel Fire, Taos, Raton and Las Vegas to celebrate the exciting power of music with the 25th Anniversary Season of Music from Angel Fire. The Festival will present exquisite, world-class chamber music concerts in the awe-inspiring beauty and serene seclusion of Northern New Mexico. The Festival begins on Friday, August 15th and continues through Monday, September 1st. International artists including the Miami String Quartet, violinists Ida and Ani Kavafian, pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, flutist Tara Helen O'Connor and Grammy Award winning fiddler/violinist Mark O'Connor, along with other talented artists, will again gather in the magnificent mountains of Northern New Mexico for fifteen concerts, featuring the great works of the Classical, Romantic, Baroque and Contemporary masters. Joan Tower, winner of three 2008 Grammy Awards, has been engaged as Music from Angel Fire's 2008 American Composer-in-Residence. The World Premiere of a new work, a composition for string quartet by Ms. Tower, will be presented during the Festival through the Bruce E. Howden, Jr. American Composers Project.
The Festival continues its 25-year tradition of musical excellence by presenting chamber music in the intimate settings of the Festival's concert venues in Angel Fire, Raton, Las Vegas and Taos. Festival Artistic Director Ida Kavafian will again host two special Musical Conversations at the United Church of Angel Fire on August 17th and August 28th, featuring J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerti. Other program highlights will include the favorite "Salon Concert" where artists will "strut their stuff" in an informal setting with unique repertoire in the afternoon of August 24th. The Festival's All Baroque Concert will be performed in Taos on August 27th. In addition, the Festival's "Closer Encounters" series will provide an informal and fun educational experience during two rehearsals on August 15th and 20th, which will also include artist talks and demonstrations. The annual Southwestern Art Auction Benefit will take place on August 24th. The always-fabulous Gala Dinner will illuminate the evening in Silver Anniversary Splendor on Sunday, August 31st. In addition to three weeks of glorious chamber music, the Festival will again present the Music from Angel Fire Young Artist Program. This ever-popular Educational Outreach Program, now in its tenth year, will feature performances by students from the famed Curtis Institute of Music of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These gifted young artists will perform as a part of the Festival's "Music in Our Schools" rural residency program, presenting over thirty hands-on classroom programs in the public schools of Northern New Mexico.
For our 25th Anniversary Season, 25 prominent Southwestern artists will transform 25 violins into unique works of art for a special fundraising affair entitled, "The Painted Violins". A Raffle will be held for these one-of-a-kind violins during the Festival. Don't miss your opportunity to add one of these delightfully unusual pieces to your Art Collection! Watch for them on display in galleries and other locations! This project is sponsored by Robertson & Sons Violin Shop of Albuquerque, who very generously donated the violins to the Festival.
The 2008 25th Anniversary Season is presented in part by the Eugene V. & Clare E. Thaw Charitable Trust of Santa Fe, the Albert I. Pierce Foundation of Albuquerque, the Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation of St. Paul, the Benton Family of Houston, the Anderson Family of Gail/Angel Fire, the Whited Foundation and United Chevrolet and Toyota of Raton, the Lenfest Foundation of Pennsylvania, the Samuels Foundation of New York, Angel Fire Resort, Valley Market of Angel Fire, Bank of America – Angel Fire, International Bank of Angel Fire and Raton, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation, the Angel Fire, Las Vegas and San Miguel County Lodgers' Tax, New Mexico Arts, a Division of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
