Luna Community College QuickBooks Classes

QuickBooks Beginner Class

This class is for anyone interested in learning about setting up the QuickBooks accounting software. The course will be a hands on learning experience and will include a quick crash course on basic accounting, getting around in quickbooks, setting up quickbooks, working with lists, i.e., chart of accounts, entering & paying bills, receiving payments, working with bank accounts and setting up inventory. Participants should have basic computer skills. There is a $65 fee for each workshop.

Basic Bookkeeping – $35

This workshop is for everyone who wants to understand the basic concepts for tracking your business sales and expenses. This workshop will provide you with a one-day training and practice in keeping a ledger, making ledger entries, i.e. debits and credits, and an introduction to reading and using basic financial statements.

If you have no knowledge in basic bookkeeping you must take this class before taking any of the QuickBooks trainings!

Beginning QuickBooks – $50

Learn to use the popular business accounting software. This course is a basic introduction to QuickBooks and is designed for those with very little to no experience in QuickBooks. QuickBooks allows you to take care of daily transactions in a small business such as writing checks, making bank deposits, transferring funds, tracking inventory items and invoicing your customers. Reporting in these various areas also helps management in making decisions that could be crucial to operations and growth of a business. Learn to set up your company properly with this hands-on lesson. You will need a basic understanding of computers, bookkeeping and how debits and credits work. Seating is Limited to 15. Intermediate QuickBooks – $50

  • May 5, 2011 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in Las Vegas, LCC Student Services Conference Room
  • June 28, 2011 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in Raton, Raton International Bank

This course is for individuals who have a basic knowledge and understanding of QuickBooks. It is a continuation from the beginning class and will take you through some of the more advanced features of the software. This workshop offers QuickBooks users the opportunity to learn about the more complicated tasks involved in managing their bookkeeping systems. Participants will learn how to customize forms and letters, track credit card transactions, work with asset and liability accounts, condense data, do estimating and progress invoicing, track time and do year-end closings. Seating is Limited to 15. QB 2010 version.

Luna Community College Workshops

Government Contracting

When: February 2, 2011 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Where: Las Vegas, NM (LCC Student Services Conference Room)

In this fast-paced, informative and enjoyable workshop, business owners are introduced to government contracting. Topics include: Does the government purchase my particular product or service? What do I need to do to get started in government marketing? What are the federal certifications? How will being certified help my business? Am I “contract ready?” What resources are available to help me? How do I market my product/service to the government? During the roundtable discussion, an informal question and answer session will be facilitated by Elaine Palin, Instructor.

This class is focused on current and potential entrepreneurs who need to understand the various types of business structures: sole proprietorship, partnership, limited partnership, LLC, corporation, so they may select the most appropriate format that will serve their business plan and development of the business. You will learn the pros and cons and tax implications of each business structure and how to properly register your business.

Small Business Taxes

This course is designed to be an introduction to the tax aspect of owning a business. It will benefit anyone who is considering getting into business or anyone who is already in business but may need to get a better grasp of the general tax structure and the responsibilities of the small business owner. The class will cover 941 reports and deposits, CRS-NM withholdings, SUI-NM unemployment, WCI fee and 940 reports. It is important for all small business owners to have a general grasp of the tax structure so as to better protect your business from liability.
