Angel Fire Resort News

Angel Fire Resort will open as scheduled for the 2010-2011 winter season this Thursday, December 16. However, due to the recent warmer and dry weather patterns, we will have a fairly limited amount of terrain open for the first few days. Given this reality, we will be offering our lift tickets at half-price through Sunday, December 19.

Although our opening scenario may be less than ideal with regards to the amount of skiable terrain we have numerous reasons to be excited. We offer what we feel is the best product in Northern New Mexico. There are several snowstorms on the horizon that are expected to hit our area over the next two weeks along with forecasts for cooler temperatures that will allow for continued snow-making. And most importantly, although we can’t control the weather, we still control our ability to ensure that our customer service, enthusiasm, and friendliness exceeds all expectations.

What to expect on opening day:

  • Chair lifts running include Chile Express, Chairs 1 & 2, the Polar Coaster moving carpet and the Children’s Ski School moving carpet.
  • Terrain open includes: Heading Home (this is nearly 3 miles of skiing acreage); Ridge Run, High Road, Lower Exhibition, the Polar Coaster and a new, freestyle area adjacent to the Polar Coaster.
  • Night Skiing will be available for $12 per person starting Thursday in the Dreamcatcher area. This includes the freestyle park. Hours of operation are 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
  • The Polar Coaster tubing hill will be open starting Thursday at the regular price of $20 per person per session.
  • Base Camp, our new fun zone for kids and teens located in the Garden Court, will be open to the public starting Thursday. There is no entry fee. Hours of operation are 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Ages 7-20.
  • Restaurants open include the Summit Haus, Village Haus, The Buzz coffee trailer, the Lodge Coffee Shop, Legends Grill (formerly known as En Fuego), Chianti’s Pizza, and the Country Club dining in Stonewood and Elements.
  • The Country Club swimming pool and fitness center will be open normal scheduled hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

What do you call an old snowman?

What do you sing at a snowman’s birthday party?
Freeze a jolly good fellow!

What goes: now you see me, now you don’t, now you see me, now you don’t?
A snowman on a zebra crossing!

What goes ho-ho whoosh, ho-ho whoosh?
Santa caught in a revolving door!

What goes “oh, oh, oh”?
Santa walking backwards!

Holiday Ice Music Festival In Taos Ski Valley, NM

Holiday Ice Music Festival SeriesHoliday Ice Music Festival

Long-time Taos resident and world renowned ice sculptor Tim Linhart, together with his wife and fellow sculptor Birgitta, returns to Taos Ski Valley for the 2010-2011 ski season bringing Ice Music.

The world’s leading proponent of Ice Music, Tim Linhart began creating ice sculptures in Taos Ski Valley in 1984 and his work has continually pushed the limits of the ice medium ever since. Over the past twelve years Tim has traveled the world developing Ice Music and has put on ten Ice Music Festivals.

The instruments range from violins and cellos to drums and xylophone and are all hand-sculpted from ice. “The Living Ice Orchestra” will be played by bands for a Holiday Ice Music Festival, a celebration of the untouched potential created by blending ice, music, and the winter environment. The festival will be held in the Winter Forest Workshop, a sacred forest space where the natural beauty of the trees, snow, and streams is merged and transformed by sculpture and the musical voice of ice. The Winter Forest Workshop will be open from December 24 – January 1 with nightly concerts highlighting the finest local Taos and New Mexico musicians.

Later in the season concerts will be played in the Celestial Sphere Concert Hall, a series of vaulted igloo style white-ice domes interlocking to form the world’s most unique musical venue, “A Nightclub in Heaven.” Construction of the Celestial Sphere will occur in January under the direction of ice sculptor Birgitta Linhart and will be open through the end of March presenting a wide range of musical concerts featuring some of New Mexico’s finest musicians. There will be daily walkthrough tours, biweekly educational lecture / slide shows, and the venue will also be available to rent for private parties, meetings and weddings.

Check out the Holiday Ice Music Festival schedule.

We will again be hosting a number of international students for our winter season in Angel Fire. These students will be away from home, many for the first time and Angel Fire Helping Hands will be available to assist them.

This year we are dedicating this season to Bruce Kelly because of his initial effort to create Angel Fire Helping Hands and the time he gave to our international students in Angel Fire.

Please stop by the Angel Fire Visitor Center at 3365 Mountain View Blvd. to sign up and get your vehicle placard that will indicate you are a safe ride for our students. We will need a copy of your vehicle insurance and your drivers license for our files.
