Taos Mainline Re-Route Project

A Message From New Mexico Gas Company and the New Mexico Department of Transportation

From August through November 2017, New Mexico Gas Company will realign a 6-mile stretch of natural gas pipeline in the Rio Grande Gorge. A new pipeline will be installed in the right-of-way along New Mexico 68.

The existing pipeline is at risk because of shifting soils. Three landslide areas are impacting the pipeline on the west side of the Rio Grande between Rinconada and Pilar. The existing pipeline must be readjusted periodically to ensure that natural gas is safely delivered to homes and businesses in Taos County. Relocating the pipeline will improve the reliability of service for about 16,000 customers in Taos, Questa and Red River. No service interruptions are anticipated during construction.

New Mexico Gas Company has worked with the New Mexico Department of Transportation on a traffic control plan. Pilot cars will lead motorists through a restricted one-way construction work zone.

Existing above ground pipeline

Northbound traffic will be stopped while a pilot car leads southbound motorists through the work zone. After that, southbound traffic will be stopped and a pilot car will escort northbound motorists. The pilot cars will operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week from August 1 until the project is completed.

Traffic updates will be posted on our social media sites. Please check @NMGasCo on Twitter and Facebook.

NM 434 Roadway Improvement Project

Guadalupita, NM: A roadway improvement project is ongoing on NM 434 from mile marker 17 to mile marker 21.

A 10′ width restriction is in place. The restriction is ridge which means vehicles wider than 10′ will need to seek alternate route. We are also asking that only passenger vehicles travel through this route and larger vehicles please seek alternate route. The critical area is between mile marker 19 and mile marker 21. The restriction will be effective beginning on February 20, 2017 and will remain active until December 2017.
