Habla Tamale Featured Entertainer

marty-tipton-01Wild Wild West World Champion Roper & Comedian “The Oklahoma Kid” Marty Tipton

Thrill to the twirling rope of Marty Tipton, world champion trick roper and wild west comedian performer. Over one hundred years of family history has prepared the him for his career in entertainment. Tipton’s father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all directors and performers in Wild West Shows.

Marty Tipton is about as close as one can get to the American cowboy of yore this side of the year 2000. And while his cowboy hat and boots, and even his livelihood as a professional trick roper add to this conception, the similarities extend beyond the standard cowboy imagery. Tipton has a larger than life quality to him, telling stories in his friendly twang that seem believable enough but also carry with them a sense of the fantastic that belongs in a dime novel. He is a hilariously funny comedian who uses many antics, including trick roping, to engage his audience in laughter. He has performed in just about every type of venue imaginable. He has made crowds laugh at professional sports games, appeared in Broadway productions like the Will Rogers Follies, and has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America. Tipton has taken the art of trick to new extremes like nothing ever seen before. You don’t want to miss his performance at the Habla Tamale Cook-off Festival in Angel Fire, New Mexico on August 8, 2015!

NM 434 Road Construction Memo

Memo From Michael Turri, Past President Board of Directors
Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce

Good Afternoon Mr. Turri,

Thank you for your email concerning NM 434 from milepost 18 to milepost 23. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is currently working on the design phase to widening NM 434 from milepost 17.24 to milepost 25.5 over the next several years. Due to the complexity and estimated cost, we are planning on constructing the corridor in three (3) Projects.

The 1st project for the corridor, which will run from milepost 17.24 to milepost 19.66, is currently being designed and is scheduled for construction the summer of 2016. It is anticipated that construction will take 2 to 3 years to complete depending on the weather. In addition, we will be completing the designs for the other two (2) projects. The 2nd project, which will run from milepost 19.66 to milepost 22.7, is currently scheduled to begin construction the summer of 2019 and the 3rd project, which will run from milepost 22.7 to the Jct. with NM 120, is currently scheduled to begin construction the summer of 2021. Please note that the current schedule for construction of the projects is based on current funding and is subject to change based on funding availability in the future. Also, based on weather each project is anticipated to take 2 to 3 years to construction.

If you have any questions or need any additional information, please give me a call at 505-454-3663.

Angel Fire Family Dentistry Tips

dentistry-tipsTips For a Healthy Mouth!

Use a rechargeable electric toothbrush with proper technique which is a 45 degree angle pointed into the gum line. Don’t overdo it. Overly aggressive brushing can damage teeth and gums.

Floss every night before bed and keep the floss tight against the tooth to break up plaque while leaving your gums in good shape.

Brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper to help prevent bad breath.

See your dental professionals regularly (twice per year is what the American Dental Association advises) and you’ll catch problems early when they’re treatable, not to mention more affordable.

New Mexico True Tourism Tour

nm-tourAngel Fire Chamber of Commerce President of the Board, Wende Woolley and Governor Susana Martinez

Last week Governor Susana Martinez came to Angel Fire with New Mexico Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Rebecca Latham, on the New Mexico True Tourism Tour. Her purpose for this tour is to announce, with great joy, that tourism visits to the State of New Mexico have reached record numbers…. for the third year in a row! She is visiting areas in the state to let us know the New Mexico True Campaign is a reality. Over 1/2 million more people visited New Mexico in 2013 than ever before. And in 2014, million visitors chose to vacation in New Mexico! These visitors have a tremendously positive economic impact on our state. Job growth within the tourism and hospitality areas have seen an 8.4% increase. That is equal to 2,200 new jobs since 2010.

My grandson comes to visit me every summer (Camp Memaw) in Angel Fire. He and I have conducted our own, very unscientific, tourism survey for the past six years. It starts when I pick him up at the airport in Albuquerque. We play a game by counting all of the out of state license plates we see for the entire time he is visiting. The first few years we would count 10, maybe 15 out of state license plates. But since the New Mexico True Campaign was rolled out three years ago, things began to change! The numbers began to double during his visits. This year when I put him back on the airplane to leave New Mexico, we had documented 49 out of state license plates and three other countries!

We are proud to be a part of the New Mexico True Campaign and to join together with the rest of our state in one voice, inviting the world to visit. We are one indeed one of a kind! Angel Fire is a big part of what our state has to offer visitors! Adventure steeped in culture, right here in our scenic mountain home. We welcome everyone to come on up the mountain and see for yourselves, the beauty that is Angel Fire.
