School Board Candidates must file a Delcaration of Candidacy between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at Colfax County Courthouse in Raton.
Declaration of Candidacy: A declaration of candidacy must be filed with the “proper filing officer” between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm on the third Tuesday in December of the even-numbered year immediately preceding the date of the regular school district election. A candidate for membership on the board may file an Affidavit of Withdrawal of Candidacy or Declaration of Intent to run as a write-in candidate with the “proper filing officer” before 5:00 PM on the 35th day before the election.

Candidate Qualifications: (Legal)
* Must be a qualified elector of the state and a resident within the school district in which he or she is a candidate. (Reference Election Code Sections 1-1-7 and 1-1-7.1, NMSA 1978 for determining residency). “Qualified elector” means any person who is qualified vote under the provisions of the Constitution of New Mexico and the Constitution of the United States.
