Habla Tamale Cook-off Festival Results

August 12, 2015 By Dave C. Leave a Comment

We had an awesome turn out for the first annual Habla Tamale Cook-off Festival!

When: August 8, 2015

Where: Angel Fire, New Mexico

People stopped by the voters booth and the Chamber of Commerce to tell us they came from Albuquerque, Gallup, Farmington, Springer, Santa Fe, Espanola, Belen, Clovis, Carlsbad, Taos, Raton, and Eagle Nest in New Mexico. Amarillo, Lubbock, Georgetown, Austin, Witchita Falls, and Dallas in Texas. And from Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, North Carolina, and New Jersey. And most of them said they intend to come again next year!

The Oklahoma Kid, Marty Tipton, the trick roper who performed and entertained said he never imagined Angel Fire was this beautiful and breath taking. He also told me it was one of the nicest trips of his career!

We apologize for running out of tamales so early but we were not expecting to sell 1215 tamale tasting tickets before 1:30 pm! We will certainly be more prepared for the size of the crowd next year!

Four of the best tamale cooks in the state of New Mexico entered the competition. The judges had a hard time deciding between them because as one judge said, “All of them were excellent. These are the best of the best!”
