Chamber News August 07, 2017

August 12, 2017 By Dave C. Leave a Comment

By Jo Mixon

This year has been full of changes. First we changed our fiscal year at the Chamber to the calendar year January thru December. In doing so Chamber membership fees went from being due on anniversary dates, to all being due January 1. The annual member meeting/dinner, board of directors election and the annual board retreat also changed dates according to our by-laws. Having past the first 6 months of 2017, I’d like to report this was a good decision for the Chamber. We have added a few events and activities to the calendar year too. These are fun changes.

The 12 Days of Christmas Raffle was such a success, it will definitely be held again this year. Gather your donations and bring them into the Chamber!

The Habla Tamale Cook-off and Festival will become an annual staple for Angel Fire and we have plans to broaden and expand. In 2018 Habla Tamale will become a 2-day event. The first day will be the New Mexico State Tamale Cook-off, as we have done in the past and we are going to add an Enchilada Cook-off in the afternoon. The second day we hope to have a National Tamale Cook-off Contest. We will be reaching out to winners of other state Tamale Cook-off’s to invite them to participate against the New Mexico State Champions. Plus we will add a Salsa Competition in the afternoon and more festival vendors, so make sure to put it on your 2018 calendar. When you do, please make a note that the date is changing back to our original dates in August. After having surveyed our contestants and vendors, the majority asked to move it back to August instead of having it on the Father’s Day weekend in June. So we will. We had thought about the 2nd week in August, but after checking calendars, there are 2 other festivals in the area on that week end. So mark your calendars for Habla Tamale to be the first weekend, August 4-5, 2018. Plan to enter and/or attend! Applications for entry will be on www.hablatamale.com and www.angelfirechamber.org the first of October, 2017

This month we have begun #AngelFireChamberRocks. It’s a fun colorful rock painting and hiding (in plain sight) activity designed to bring people into our local businesses and produce smiles and customers. (See #AngelFireChamberRocks)

Next, in early September, we are organizing an area wide Volunteer Appreciation Picnic called “I Am Angel Fire”. We are joining forces with other non-profits and businesses to say thank-you to all of the volunteers who make Angel Fire events and activities a success! Countless hours and talent are put into events and we want to say exactly how much we appreciate the hard work. Each and every volunteer IS Angel Fire! Look for more information coming soon.

The last weekend in September, Art Up Northern New Mexico will stage an Angel Fire Studio Tour. Artist that are interested may sign up now. Any local businesses that would like to be on the brochure map may call 575-377-6353 for more information. Deadline for entry is August 11, 2017.

For the Holiday season, we are joining forces with the Resort, the Village and the Garden Club in the Holiday Lighting initiative. We asking businesses to “Light Up” in white lights. Please plan to attend the Quarterly Membership Breakfast meeting August 22, 8:00 am to 9:00 am, in the foyer of the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce for more information. Let’s turn Angel Fire into a Holiday Village!

Then we we are going to help coordinate “Pop Up Holiday Markets” throughout the Christmas shopping season. So much is happening! Year after year we are strengthening our local economy and we at the Chamber are extremely pleased to be a part of this vibrant community we serve!

Want to get involved? Angel Fire Chamber offers a variety of Membership Levels. They include the Standard Membership at $275 per year, Non-Profit Membership for $225 per year, Premium Membership also $225 per year plus 1/2% pass thru customer fee with min. contribution of $ 110 annually. When a Premium Member’s customer past thru fee reaches $2,500. annually, this Premium Member automatically receives a Gold Membership and their annual fee is Free. There are also Associate Real Estate Memberships, Associate Multiple Business Owner Memberships and Chamber to Chamber memberships for $100. per year.
