October 6, 2021 By Dave C. Leave a Comment

In an effort to give the public a chance to learn more about the candidates before voting, forum organizers have requested that the five councilor candidates each provide a profile of their qualifications and motivations for running by answering the following questions.

A Candidate Forum will be held as soon as the date and time has been secured with all of the candidates. The forum is sponsored by the Angel Fire Candidate Forum Committee.

There are four candidates running for two available 4 year terms. There is one candidate running for the 2 year term. They are listed in alphabetical order. See their unedited responses below.

Village Councilor Candidate Profiles (4 Year Term)

Russ Coyle (Incumbent)

1. How long have you lived in Angel Fire and been a registered Angel Fire voter?
I have lived in Angel Fire for approximately 13 years and registered to vote.

2. What are your leadership qualifications?
I am currently the bank manager for Washington Federal Bank and in this position for approximately 11 years. I currently serve on the board of directors of Kit Carson Electric. I am currently Mayor pro-tem of the Village of Angel Fire Council. And I proudly served with the Rotary club of Angel Fire as president.

3. What qualifications (other than those listed above) do you possess that will convince voters you are the best choice for councilor?
I am honest and trustworthy. I am a strong believer in right and wrong. I work well with others. I get things done. I believe in Angel Fire and that we still have a lot to do with our village.

4.Why do you want to be an Angel Fire councilor?
I wish to continue in my position on the Village of Angel Fire Council. Being on the council for this term has brought to light even more things that need to be addressed than before. I pledge to you that I will give you my best in resolving many of these concerns.

Chuck Howe

1. How long have you lived in Angel Fire and been a registered Angel Fire voter?
I have lived in Angel Fire and been a registered voter for 17 years.

2. What are your leadership qualifications?
I have 16 years experience as an Angel Fire Village Councilor, Mayor Pro-tem and Mayor. I have been on the David Westphall Veterans Foundation board as a member since 2004 and have been Board President for 13 years. I founded the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center in 2009. We have treated almost 800 veterans and spouses for Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We need at least one Councilor with this experience.

3. What qualifications (other than those listed above) do you possess that will convince voters you are the best choice for councilor?
I have the time, energy and experience to do the job. During my service to the Village I averaged up to four hours a day at the Village, working with governing bodies around the Enchanted Circle, or working with the New Mexico state legislature and New Mexico state government agencies.

4. Why do you want to be an Angel Fire councilor?
I want to be an Angel Fire Village Councilor to build on my past experience and continue to move the village forward. I will support Angel Fire across the board with emphasis on: work force housing, roads, building a dog park and building a skate board park.

William “Bill” Humbert

1.How long have you lived in Angel Fire?
I have owned a home in Angel Fire for 21 years and have lived here full time and been registered to vote for 7 years.

2.What are your leadership qualifications?
During my working career in public education, I served as a campus principal for 5 years and Director of Curriculum for for 10 years. I have been active in many community committees and community events, and I have served in a leadership position in the church I attend. Much of my life has been dedicated to service both to young people and to the communities in which I have lived.

3.What qualifications (other than those listed above) do you possess that will convince voters you are the best choice for councilor?
Having previously served for over 2 years on the Village Council, I believe I have experience in working with the issues facing Angel Fire, specifically dealing with the infrastructure problems, and working with Village personnel on the bond initiatives. I have also served on the Planning and Zoning committee and various other Village committees. I am a graduate of the Municipal Officials Leadership Institute. This is a 60-hour training program that covers all facets of Municipal Government and the responsibilities of elected officials. Being an effective council member involves more than attending council meetings. It is not enough to just read the agenda and packet before a meeting. One needs to study the packet materials and spend time with Village administration personnel and department heads and staff to determine the problems and needs of departments and the Village. It involves going to work sites and observing the problems firsthand. I am dedicated to spending the time to learn about the issues coming before the council and to be effective in helping to solve these issues.

4.Why do you want to be an Angel Fire councilor?
Angel Fire is my home and want to see Angel Fire be a successful place to people to live and businesses to succeed. I have been active in the village for as long as I have owned a home here and I know that with my qualifications and dedication I will be a good councilor.

Bruce Jassman (Incumbent)

1.How long have you lived in Angel Fire?

3. What qualifications (other than those listed above) do you possess that will convince voters you are the best choice for councilor?
As a full time resident of Angel Fire, I feel that there will be issues that concern the village and I would like to be a part of the solution. I have many contacts around the area that will benefit the village in our daily operations. As a leader of the community I will do my best to keep Angel Fire moving forward. I have raised my children in this community and talk to everyone on current issues.

4. Why do you want to be an Angel Fire councilor?
I care about this community and enjoy working on problems and solving those problems.

Village Councilor Candidate Profile (2 Year Term)

Owen Curry (Incumbent)

1. How long have you lived in Angel Fire and been a registered Angel Fire voter?
My wife and I first started visiting Angel Fire in 1999. We purchased lots in 2010, built our home in 2014 and moved here full-time and registered as Angel Fire voters in 2018.

2. What are your leadership qualifications?
I have successfully owned and operated a shipping and logistics company for over 29 years. I have also successfully owned and operated Resort Properties of Angel Fire
the last four years. Running businesses has taught me how to be fiscally conservative, manage employees, establish/operate within a budget and to address the concerns of customers. I have in the past and currently sit on the boards of both volunteer and for profit organizations. I choose to be actively involved in the success of these organizations.

3. What qualifications (other than those listed above) do you possess that will convince voters you are the best choice for councilor?
When Maria and I made the decision to move full time to Angel Fire, we also wanted to be members of the Angel Fire business community. We looked at several business opportunities. We decided to purchase a property management company already established in Angel Fire. Becoming a property manager also required that I be licensed realtor in New Mexico and quickly learn New Mexico real estate law. Our hard work has paid off and I am proud to say we are the largest property management company in Angel Fire. While I equate the learning experience to drinking out of a fire hose, it has given me a unique understanding of the Angel Fire community and its strengths/challenges. When Mayor Mixon asked me to replace a departing councilor, I embraced the chance to serve our community. The experience has prepared me for the future. I do not shy from difficult tasks or difficult decisions.

4. Why do you want to be an Angel Fire councilor?
Our family is fully committed to the Angel Fire community. We are both a homeowner and business owner in Angel Fire. We have fully dedicated to making Angel Fire the best possible home. It is important to me that this community be a good and healthy place for my family. It is important to me that this community have a thriving business environment. I believe my past and current charitable, community and business experiences have made me uniquely qualified to be a Village Councilor. I believe Angel Fire has great potential and I want to be a part of taking our community to the next level.
