Get Ready For Summer

June 30, 2023 By Dave C. Leave a Comment

By Jo Mixon

Activities slow down a little in the Moreno Valley during April and early May. Tourists are not as visible, many locals head for the beach to get a little rest from the seasonal pace we keep, some businesses close to take a breather, do heavy cleaning and regroup for the next season. Now is the time behind the scenes when all of the preparation for what is to come as summer gets to full speed. The weather either cooperates or doesn’t, we don’t mind at all. And although we know there is always a chance of spring snow to come, today the sun is shining!

To kick off the 2023 season, the Angel Fire Golf Course will open on May 19th. The mountain will also resume full service with the opening of the Angel Fire Bike Park, the Chile Express scenic chairlift rides, Zipline Tours, 18-hole Disc Golf on the summit of the mountain, Monte Verde Lake activities and the Olympic Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts. For more information and a complete calendar of activities and chairlift calendar, visit this link, Angel Fire Resort Calendar of Events.

Alex Maryol is the opening act for Cool Summer Concerts in the Park on June 9th. Located in Frontier Park, the heart of Angel Fire, the summer music series will be every Friday night from June 9th thru Aug 25th. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to this free family event.

The Sunday morning Art +Farmers Market resumes on June 11 and will take place every Sunday morning thru September 3rd. (If you would like to participate as a vendor, contact the Angel Fire Resort.)

Balloons Over Angel Fire will take flight on Father’s Day Weekend, June 16th – 18th, at the Angel Fire Airport. This year over 40 hot air balloons will take part in the mass ascensions at 7:00 am each morning. Be there early to walk among the balloons as they prepare for take off, have a cup of coffee, sign up to help crew a balloon, and purchase your event t-shirt and lapel pin. Weather permitting Balloon Glow will take place on June 17 at dusk.

Mimosa’s on Mainstreet happens June 17, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. We shut down a portion of North Angel Fire Rd/Bill Burgess Blvd. for arts and craft booths, a kids zone, food, music and a Mimosa Garden at MiKuna Grill. Vendor applications are available online. Signup now.

This year the Annual AAFPO Weekend will be held June 24th – 26th. If you are an Angel Fire homeowner, plan to attend. The AAFPO annual meeting will be on Saturday 25th at the Angel Fire Resort.

With much anticipation , the Summer Adventures of the Traveling Chamber Chair, one of our favorite summer games, will make a come back this summer! The Traveling Chair has been side-lined since the 2020 COVID shutdown grounded the game. This year someone will win a cash prize of $250.00, with weekly prizes throughout the game. Each week the chair will find it’s way to a different business. It is like a scavenger hunt. To be eligible to win you must find the chair, sit in it, take a selfie and upload it to the Traveling Chamber Chair’s Face Book page. Then without giving away its location, say something positive about the business where you found it. Start looking for the Traveling Chamber Chair the week of June 26th. It will travel around until August 18th. (More information will be posted in following blasts. The Chair’s Face Book page will go live on June 26th.)

July 4th will bring celebrations all over town. The 2nd Annual 4th of July Parade will be at 11:00 am on Bill Burgess Blvd/North Angel Fire Rd. (To sign up as a parade participant contact the Visitor Center.) Along with multiple events around town. The day will end with our first ever Drone Show Firework Display. No real fireworks but the same amazing effects!

July 3rd and 4th, we are excited to have a new event take place. The Angel Fire Summer Skate Festival, a fund raiser presented by the Overground Project, a Skate Park coming soon to Angel Fire. We will set up mobile skate ramps and have pro demo’s and competitions as well as free skate classes for local and visiting kids.

August 17th -31st, Music From Angel Fire Concerts return for the 40th time, celebrating great music in the beauty of northern New Mexico.

Plus, there are so many reasons other than the above events to plan a trip to Angel Fire this summer. Horseback riding with Nancy Burch and Roadrunner Tours is a year-round favorite, attend the interactive Cowboy Evenings Chuck wagon dinners or go on an ATV tour at Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures, ride the rapids of the Rio Grande with Far Flung Adventures and New Mexico River Adventures, get all your summer hiking and fishing gear from Mountain Sports of Angel Fire. In August don’t miss Nashville to New Mexico in Eagle Nest, and many more events. Come and stay for the change of the Aspens and take the self guided art tour, the Angel Fire Studio Art Tour.

There is something for everyone with plenty of other activities and events filling the summer roster, check it out at the Chambers Calendar of Events (note: events are updated as soon as we are notified) so do not hesitate to make your reservations now. We invite you to come on up for fresh air, adventure or relaxation and fun!

Also prepare for Highway delays on Hwy 434 and Hwy 64. Roadwork that we desperately need is taking place for the rest of the year. You may want to add 30 minutes to your ETA, drive slow and be cautious, we really want you to arrive safe and sound to Angel Fire.
